HERBAL REMEDIES & ESSENTIAL OILS
I wasn’t feeling as limited. The causes for digestive system problems were varied and many.
“Shelly, there are a lot of natural, different things we can work with to tame and stop your distress. Using essential oils can help—especially peppermint. Aloe and other herbal products are also very healing for the stomach.
This is a passage from my book talking about therapeutic effects of both essential oils and herbal remedies.
An herbal remedy is defined a medication prepared from plants.
Herbs have become a part of my daily life. I try to pick from my pot of herbs and add them to my salads and I try to cook with as many spices as possible. Not only do these plants taste good, they have many health benefits as well.
The key is finding the best herbs for you. Trust your intuition and do some research. Below are a few examples of herbs I use:
Aloe-
I always keep an aloe plant on hand to rub on burns and it is also very helpful for digestive repair.
Turmeric or Curcumin-
What a powerhouse. I take a product called CurcumaSorb almost daily because I don’t cook with it enough. It is an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, brain booster, fights cancer, treats depression https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/top-10-evidence-based-health-benefits-of-turmeric
and the list goes on…
Essiac Tea-
I make up this tea for myself a couple of times a year. I use Nurse Caisse’s formulation which contains Burdock root, Indian rhubarb root, sheep sorrel and slippery elm.
Milk thistle-
Assists the liver. When I would ride Velvet on our property in the mountains in Virginia she would selectively graze on milk thistle. I would let her go from plant to plant and she would eat those prickly tops when they were flowering. Horses know what they need so don’t take all their weeds away.
Garlic-
My favorite antibiotic of all. If I ever feel I am getting sick, I take a whole head (yes a head not a clove) of garlic and add it to some olive oil and eat it. I usually have it eat this with some crackers to keep my stomach from being upset.
Hemp-
This wonderful herb is finally being recognized for all of its healing properties. I give Molly Brown and Velvet hemp oil every day. I eat hemp hearts often. I have used CBD oil on both of my animals for various reasons. I recommend that people give CBD oil a try if they are having pain issues. It seems it works like magic on some of my clients and other have no effets.
Psyllium-
This is a wonderful source of fiber to feed your most important pet- your gut microbiome.
Cilantro-
Assists heavy metal detoxification
ESSENTIAL OILS
My kitchen countertop is usually cluttered with essential oil bottles because I am frequently making something. My bedside table is also cluttered because I will frequently rub them on my body before bed. The way to learn about essential oils is to experiment. Start learning. Take charge of your own health. These compounds are extremely effective. There are recipes and free help on line to get you started. https://naturallivingfamily.com/category/remedies/ I have used many of the Zielinski’s recipes. Make sure you are getting pure organic oils from reputable sources!
I currently make my own cleaning products and make my horse’s flyspray and my dog’s flea repellant. These may not be quite as effective as sprays with toxic chemicals, but as I continue to use them my animals are also getting healthier and their bodies do not seem to attract bugs like they used to.
Frankincense-
is my favorite. No wonder it was given to baby Jesus. I put this on my face every night and as I inhale it I get the anti-inflammatory effects and anti cancer effects
Peppermint-
I use this for indigestion and this is an aid to get people of their acid blocking drugs. I sometimes add this to my animal sprays to deter bugs.
Lemon-
I add this to water to have a nice drink. I also use it in many of my cleaning recipes.
Cedarwood-
This is used in all of my flea, fly and tick recipes.
Tree tea oil-
This is an amazing anti-infective and I use it often. I don’t even own Neosporin any more. I only use essential oils and medicinal Manuka honey(above 15 UMF)
Oregano oil-
This was the first essential oil I experimented with years ago. It knocks out thrush in a horses hoof amazingly fast. I remember being given formaldehyde by my farrier years ago to use on thrush. I can’t believe I used it and applied it without using gloves. I still see formaldehyde detoxing out of me on my SCIO. Many thrush treatments are toxic. The worst side effect of using Oregano oil is that you smell like a pizza.
Lavender-
This is a very popular oil for relaxation. Lavender winds me up so I don’t use it for that purpose, but I do use it in some of my animal sprays.
Eucalyptus-
I have this on hand in case I ever have a cold and get congested.
The next few oils are combination products made by Young Living
Thieves-
This is my top cleaning product. It has very good studies to go with it showing antibacterial and antifungal properties. It contains: clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus and rosemary.
Deep Relief Roll on-
If you have tight muscles you will love this
RC-
Another product to have on hand in case you get a cold. It is very soothing and makes the night much easier.
