EXERCISE
activity requiring physical effort, carried out to sustain or improve health and fitness
I was excited to learn about this new unit operating out of a prestigious hospital. It was so helpful to have medical doctors now talking about the same things I was. I made a point of following up by checking their work out. I found they were having amazing successes with very serious diseases using detoxification programs, supplements, diet, and exercise. This was very encouraging news.
Exercise seems to be a part of every successful health program.
Many studies have been done on the health benefits of exercise: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1402378/
It can help prevent many chronic diseases- cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, asthma, arthritis and dementia to name a few. Routine physical activity is also associated with improved psychological well-being which is so important in many health conditions. If exercise were a drug- some company would be making millions. You have the power to do this for yourself now!
I have been an avid exerciser my entire life. Even when I was feeling terrible I continued to exercise because I knew how much better I would feel when I got done. The real challenge is just to get started and to make it a habit. Find something you like and just do it! I’ve listed below some of the exercises I do.
Horseback riding
Riding horses is not only good exercise, it is great for lymphatic flow and balance. You just can’t help but be grateful for everything from the back of such a spiritual animal.
Yoga
Yoga exercises have been a regular part of my life since my early 20’s. The focus on the breath and the flexibility I gain keeps me practicing.
Weight lifting
As I started getting older I needed to do some weight training to keep my muscle mass and strength. The weight also helps to keep bones strong.
Walking or Jogging
This has been a recent addition to my life since I now go to the beach every day. I usually do some interval training where I will alternate between bursts of jogging and walking. I try to always take the time at the end to admire the beautiful sunset over the water.
Pickleball
I am constantly seeking out new forms of exercise to keep things interesting. When I moved to Cape Charles I found pickle ball, which I love. It is so good for my brain as well as my body. I’m sure I will be playing this game for many years. No wonder this sport is taking the country by storm.
Dancing
Other than dancing with horses in the round pen, I am not much of a dancer. This is on my life list to learn. I watch people swing dancing and I am determined to become one of those people.
